Having a self hosted blog gives u a lot of possibilities and control over your blog. Well, what else can match the power and freedom of a self hosted wordpress blog. wordpress.com and blogger.com are good and reliable (especially if u have a big load of traffic suddenly), but still having a self hosted blog is one thing.

You can do anything by Self-Hosting your own blog. You can advertise/monetize, run different scripts and get the traffic you want. You said it right! Very interesting.

@Teasastips Sometimes we really have to learn things the hard way for us to actually gain--wisdom. I believe that learning from an unfavorable circumstance is something that isn't taught in school. Life's lessons are hard to grasp but once you embraced the idea, it all has its rewards. Lucky are the people who learns from other people's mistakes and praises is for those who share their shortcomings.

Thanks for sharing!

I learned that the hard way. I began blogging using a dot blogspot domain. The biggest penalty for me was not being found by the SE's. My page rank acceleration was stunted, and I could only get as high as a PR3, I obtained this ranking in one year, and never went any higher. I don't know why this happened, as I was commenting on relevant blogs, ranked by Technorati, doing everything a blogger is supposed to do in order to get traffic. I sometimes posted more than once a day, however, I never felt as if I were getting recognized.

Well, I just switched one month ago to a self hosted blog, and already I am seeing a difference in traffic and where it is coming from.

For me, moving to a self-hosted blog is a motivation in itself to update regularly. I agree that this move might be necessary for creating your own brand, especially when you're servicing a larger crowd.
