From a webmaster's point of view, you're right. Reputable ones do have critics too. I don't mind trying out Nexx however I'm already committed to my host and was happy with it.

Based on their site, Nexx has been around since '96 (http://www.nexx.com/company/about-nexx/).

I'm willing to try anything just to save but once you're already managing sites with steady traffic that has been around for quite sometime, I don't think transferring host is a good idea.

Bloggers starting to self-host will benefit much from this promotion.

"If costly goods and services are automatically attributed to having good quality, then we should not be hearing customer complaints against big companies and small businesses may not be around either."

I couldn't agree with you more, Math. Now, why do I still hesitate with Nexx's offer? Are they a new company? Because when I searched google with "Nexx webhosting + scam", there's not much in the results. I mean, all reputable web hosts have their share of critics, so you can always expect some google returns in "so-and-so webhosts sucks", or something to that effect. A webhost without such feedback would seem suspicious. Or, they're probably utterly clean.

While the “you get what you pay for” idea sounds fair, I don't think it always happen in real life because if it does, then competition in any industry should be non-existent. If costly goods and services are automatically attributed to having good quality, then we should not be hearing customer complaints against big companies and small businesses may not be around either. It's like saying, "the end always justify the means."

Arafat has a good point. It's still best to research some good web hosting companies first, and ask people about their experiences with it.
Also, It's nice to know the price/month after the promo because sometimes, people forget that it's only a promo and get angry why they pay much more after a year or so.

@James
I guess we're on the same boat when it comes to looking at web hosts but who would ever refuse a $10 web hosting offer for an entire year if they could deliver a decent service? My best bet would be trying out the 30-day moneyback guarantee and giving it a full run within the same time frame. I believe that in such amount of time, you can gauge their server's uptime and customer service efficiency.

I trust word-of-mouth advertising that's why I no longer have issues with my current host since I switched in November 2009. No downtime since then.

@Arafat
Just a follow-up, although you are concerned with security aside from server uptime, most web hosts doesn't assume full responsibility when something happens on your site e.g., when it's hacked since they always make sure that webmasters are reminded and are aware of the possible threats of maintaining a website and safeguarding each of their client's sites is just too much for them since what they're focused on is maintaining the main servers security.

This is very tempting, especially since I am on the lookout for another host for my planned additional sites. Thing is, I've had my personal share of experiences that confirm the 'you get what you pay for' idea. I've gathered a fair amount of research and are considering hostgator or bluehost. I think I'll take a closer look at Nexx and see what they can offer as well as the feedback from existing/past clients.

If I get a thumbs up later on, would I pay $10 for a full year's hosting? Why not?

Hi Arafat,
I agree with you.
The regular hosting cost is $5.95/month after the promotional period.

Affordable hosting always great but I'm not going to compromise with downtime and other security factor. Another thing I'm missing is, what will be the price after promotional period?
