Hi Leo,
I’ve tried using a freeware called “SiteUp” however there has been too many false positives so I instead used a third-party service provider on a free account and it worked for me.

It’s very rare to find software doing the same thing even paid ones so I’d rather suggest that you go for the service providers.

Hi Mathdelane, What 3rd party software would you recommend using? I got an alert when my cpanel failed (which only happened once in 3 years) but some sites I design are not hosted on my server, so may need to look into a service for these clients. .-= Leo´s last blog ..Accountancy website design ? I probably don't because only once since I've been with my host has there ever been a problem, and I've been with them 4 years now. I guess I don't worry much about it, since I have everything backed up on my computer. .-= Mitch´s last blog ..Residual Or Full Time Income? =-.

It’s nice to see you back. Internetseer.com offers a free website monitoring service with a weekly site up time and access reporting via email. This way, you’ll be informed on what has been happening or if there’s any significant outage that have happened in the previous week. You may also use live monitoring however in most cases it may require a fee.

This has worked so much for me in the past until today that’s why I’m keeping the service for good.

Tell me about it. If not because of the tech issues that freaked me out I wouldn’t have realized the importance of having a good host. It’s not entirely their fault though but the glitch is really worth concerning. I think you’re very proactive to send the screenshots, it’s easier to explain that way and better, we have the record.

After this experience, yes, very important to have a good host.
